Ivan Rakitić is considering leaving Barcelona this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Croatian international, crucial in his national team’s gallop to the semifinal of last year’s World Cup in Russia, is apparently worried about losing his place in the team as the club begin to amass quality midfielders of much younger age. They have secured a deal to sign 21-year-old Frenkie de Jong of Ajax in the summer and they are currently working on persuading Adrien Rabiot of Paris Saint-Germain to move to Camp Nou as well. The Frenchman’s contract with the Ligue 1 champions expires at the end of the season and his departure from Parc des Princes at this point seems imminent.
Rakitić has recently been linked with Inter Milan, who failed in their attempt to sign his compatriot Luka Modrić from Real Madrid last summer. Unlike Modrić, the 32-year-old Rakitić seems unwilling to stay at his club and fight for his place surrounded by the abundance of upcoming talent.
