Although Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic has been rumoured to be leaving the club during one of this year’s transfer windows and the midfielder had many suitors interested in reaching a deal, it seems that the he will not be leaving Camp Nou this summer, according to the Mirror.
The reasons behind the rumours of expressed interest, negotiations and possible deals are numerous. First of all, although Barcelona have offloaded Coutinho, they still have plenty of midfielders and Rakitic would have to try hard to get his place on the team. Secondly, his contract with the club is ending in two years and the Croatian might be anxious to find himself a new club if he thought Barcelona were unlikely to offer him a new one. Last but not least, Rakitic, who turned 31 years old last March, might consider his age to be a contributing factor in the whole matter, with Barcelona deciding to use younger, more agile players in their game.
Still, it seems Rakitic is staying put for now. Both sides appear keen to keep things as they are, with Barcelona happy to have more player options at their disposal and Rakitic eager to get more minutes on the pitch.
