Southampton’s manager Ralph Hasenhuttl hopes that the team’s captain Pierre Emile Hojbjerg will sign a new contract with the club, Sky Sport reports. The Danish midfielder still has about two years left of his contract, which he signed in July 2016 for a period of five years.
Nathan Redmond, the Saints’ winger who also signed for the club in the same year and for the same period of time signed another long-term contract with Southampton last month. Southern Daily Echo reported that speaking ahead of the club’s Premier League match against Sheffield United on 14 September Hasenhuttl said he would be happy if Hojbjerg decided to stay at the club, as he was an important player for the team.
The Danish international played 75 Premier League matches during the previous three seasons at the club and scored four goals. This season he appeared in three of the club’s four PL matches but has yet to score.
