Santos coach Muricy Ramalho has joked that Sir Alex Ferguson’s feat of 25 years in charge at Manchester United would not be possible in Brazil.
The English Premier League champions’ 1-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday had a special feeling attached to it as it marked the 25th anniversary of Ferguson’s appointment at the club.
Several football personalities have heaped praise on the Scottish tactician’s achievement, but Ramalho, who has been in charge of Santos since April, remarked that the 69-year-old would never have been that successful in Brazil.
“Ferguson has only been at United for this long because he works in England,” he told Globoesporte. “Here, in Brazil, things are different.”
“If he arrives at a club in Brazil today and they draw on Saturday, his place is under threat already.”
“Arsene Wenger has been at Arsenal for a long time, too, with his good-looking suit, his hair all done, but he does not win anything.”
