Derby County manager Nigel Clough is looking to sign a young midfielder on loan from a Premier League club just before start of the new season.
Clough, who brought in Aston Villa’s Barry Bannan for the final three months of last season, wants to add some top-flight quality to his squad for the forthcoming Championship campaign.
“We have enquired already about a couple of players with a view to bringing someone in on loan to bolster the squad,” said Clough.
“There are not too many talented midfielders out there at the moment who are available to buy. So we thought the quality a young player from a Premier League club could bring to the squad would be as good as, if not better, than anything we could bring in on a permanent basis.
The Aston Villa man is also on the manager’s shortlist of potential targets to bring into his squad.
“Barry (Bannan) is certainly one of the names because we know him and he has already been with us but there are four or five possibilities.”
