Ramsey’s situation seems to split Arsenal fans opinion

According to Sky Sports, contract talks between Arsenal and Aaron Ramsey’s representative have broken down after months of negotiations.

The Wales international has less than a year left on his current deal with the north London club. Media reports claim that the midfielder is looking for around £250,000 per-week to sign a new deal with the club.

If the two parties cannot come to an agreement then Ramsey will be a free agent in the summer. He will also be able to talk to foreign clubs on January 1st.

Arsenal’s wage budget well gone

In reality, footballer’s wages have reached a crazy level. For the wages that some of these guys are earning they should be saving humanity.

However, they are just athletes who are taking advantage of the supply and demand culture. You cannot really blame them, as who would turn down such ridiculously high wage packets?

Arsenal until relatively recently had a very strict wage structure, a bit like arch-rivals Tottenham have now. They would not go over a certain amount when signing players or giving players new contracts.

However, in recent seasons that wage budget has been ditched in an attempt to increase the quality of player at the club. Unfortunately, it has just given overrated players fatter wage packets.

Former Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil is the biggest example. He has enjoyed mixed fortunes at Arsenal. However, in the last year, he has signed a new deal worth a reported £350,000.

Ozil’s wages are not in line with the effect he has on the team. He blows hot and cold in truth. If Arsenal are going to pay big wages at least make sure he delivers on a consistent basis.

Ramsey is good when fit

Aaron Ramsey has managed to avoid his usual injury problems this season. Much like Ozil, his problem is that he is too inconsistent. The Welshman will enjoy a purple patch of form where he is outstanding.

However, then his form will dip or he will pick up an injury which curtails his chances of becoming a truly top player. Ramsey has shown that for club and country he can be hugely influential when on his game.

He just needs to stay fit and focussed. Arsenal boss Unai Emery has stated that he is an admirer of the midfielder and that he hoped that the Welshman would sign a new deal. However, Ramsey seems to split opinion among Arsenal fans. There is certainly not an outcry from Gunners fans about the club not meeting his wages demands.

Looks set to leave in the summer

Arsenal have got themselves in another big mess over a player holding the club to ransom over a new deal. It keeps happening and the Gunners either lose the player on a free or on a cut-price deal.

Either way, it seems that Ramsey will leave the club in the near future. Italian giants AC Milan are favourites to sign Ramsey at odds of 2/1. The likes of Liverpool and Everton have also been linked with moves for the midfielder.

For now, Ramsey is an Arsenal player and is likely to start for the Gunners against Watford on Saturday afternoon. However, it seems his contract situation is likely to split fans. For me, though, if I was an Arsenal fan then I would be disappointed if the club caved and offered him £250,000- per-week to stay, as he is a decent player, but is not worth that sort of big salary.

Should Arsenal meet Aaron Ramsey’s wage demands?
