Glasgow rivals Rangers and Celtic are both through to the quarter finals of the Scottish League Cup, after away wins at Queen of the South and Falkirk respectively.

On paper, Rangers had the easier task of the two but failed to make a big impression at Queen of the South. Steven Naismith (16th) and Nacho Novo (79th) scored for ‘Gers, but the hosts made sure that the final few minutes would be exciting after Robert Harris made it 1-2 near the end of regular time.

Rangers did hold on to their narrow lead though, and advance to the quarter finals.

Celtic had a much easier night at Falkirk. Scott McDonald scored in the 28th and 53rd minutes, Patrick McCourt did so in the 64th and Christopher Killen added a fourth and final goal in the 74rd.

Heart of Midlothian secured the last quarter final spot with a 2-1 win over Dunfermline. Motherwell, Dundee, St. Johnstone, St. Mirren and Dundee United had already won their round of sixteen matches.
