Kenny Miller believes a rare win at Pittodrie for Rangers will be vital if the Glasgow giants are to wrestle the Scottish Premier League title away from Celtic.
The Ibrox club travel north on Saturday to take on fierce rivals Aberdeen knowing a win would see them go top for the first time since November.
Aberdeen are in red-hot form, having won six of their last seven league games including last week’s defeat of Celtic, and Scottish international Miller knows it will be a tough task with Rangers having won only once on their last seven visits to Pittodrie.
“It’s always tough whenever we go up to Pittodrie. Aberdeen seem to raise their game against us and they make it very hard to get anything.
“Aberdeen have done really well in the last few weeks. They’ve got a good team with some fantastic players. They’re starting to score a lot of goals and Lee Miller in particular has begun to find the net fairly regularly over the last couple of months.
“At this stage of the campaign, however, we really need to get three points up there, but we know how difficult that will be. I think we’re probably due a win at Aberdeen and we’re certainly capable of going and getting the victory we want.
“There will be pressure on us as there always is and the crowd will be right on top of us. It will be a pretty hostile environment.”
Rangers will have Sasa Papac available for the match after their appeal against his red card in last weekend’s match against Falkirk was referred to the SFA’s review panel.
In Saturday’s other matches, Old Firm rivals Celtic take on Hibernian.
The Parkhead club could welcome back goalkeeper Artur Boruc, who missed last weekend’s defeat by Aberdeen after he picked up an injury in the warm-up.
Hibs, who defeated the Hoops at Easter Road earlier in the season, will want a win to consolidate their place in the top six.
Dundee United host St Mirren at Tannadice hoping to bounce back from their heavy defeat to Motherwell last weekend.
The Buddies are also looking to get back to winning ways after losing to Hibernian, their first defeat in seven games.
Bottom of the table Inverness Caledonian Thistle travel to Edinburgh to take on Hearts at Tynecastle.
Both Argentine World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles and former manager John Robertson are vying to replace Craig Brewster after he was sacked following seven straight defeats.
Motherwell take on Falkirk at Fir Park.
Second bottom Falkirk will be without defender Patrick Clegg for the match after the Bairns lost their appeal against the red-card he picked up in last weekend’s game against Rangers.
On Sunday, Kilmarnock host Hamilton at Rugby Park.
Kilmarnock haven’t won in five games but have been boosted by the news that midfielder Danny Invincible has signed a new two-year contract.
