Scottish champions Rangers have revealed they want to complete the signing of Brisbane Roar captain Matt McKay by Thursday.

Rangers have collected four points from their opening two Scottish Premier League matches and club manager Ally McCoist is interested in acquiring the services of the Australia international.

Rangers declared their interest in midfielder McKay, 28, via a story on the club’s official website on Sunday.

The story read: “McKay is in the UK as Australia have a friendly international with Wales on Wednesday night and Rangers would love to do a deal before the Europa League play-off deadline on Thursday.”

“McKay comes highly recommended by former team-mate Craig Moore who, of course, spent nearly 10 years at Rangers, and Ian Ferguson who has watched McKay blossom during his time in Australian football.”

“He also played beside Charlie Miller who was also impressed by his ability.”

Ranger say McKay may have problems gaining a work permit, but they hope to wrap up the deal for the 16-time international so he is eligible to play in their Europa League campaign.

Having exited the Champions League at the hands of Malmo last Wednesday, they meet Slovenian side Maribor on August 18.
