Rangers’ Jelavic out with ankle injury

Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic is to have an ankle operation and will miss “a number of matches”, the Scottish champions announced on Monday.

The Croatian international suffered the injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Hearts at Tynecastle as a result of a second half challenge by Jambos midfielder Ian Black.

A Rangers statement said: “Following a tackle in Saturday’s game against Hearts at Tynecastle, Nikica Jelavic suffered ankle ligament damage that requires surgery.

“The striker will now miss a number of matches for the club.”
