Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who recently signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2024, has confirmed that there will be departures from the club in the January transfer window.
The 38-year-old former Liverpool captain said it won’t be easy look some of his players in the eye and inform them that their services are not needed, especially as they haven’t done anything wrong. He believes every single on of them deserves to be picked. However, the fact of the matter is – the squad is too big, and he, as the manager, can only pick 11 players to start and 18 to be in the matchday squad, and the club are looking to trim the squad down a bit for the second half of the season.
Gerrard refused to give specific names out of respect for the players as individuals. One player that has often been linked with a move away is forward Alfredo Morelos, but as Gerrard only spoke about the players not being able to get into the team, it’s fair to assume that the 23-year-old Colombian wasn’t included in these remarks.
