Scott Arfield has joined Glasgow Rangers from Burnley on a four-year contract, the Scottish club have confirmed.
Arfield has therefore become the first signing of the new Rangers manager, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. His goal at Anfield brought a point to the Clarets against the manager’s old club in September.
Able to perform a number of roles in midfield, Arfield will certainly bring some steel to Glasgow as Gerrard aims to make life harder for his own former manager Brendan Rodgers, currently at the helm of their bitter rivals Celtic who have just won their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
The midfielder spent five years at Turf Moor, the last three in the Premier League, and his contribution was vital for Burnley’s first European qualification in over 50 years.
Gerrard is also thrilled about the move, and has described Arfield as talented and competitive. He’s pleased the rebuilding process has started so early and adds that there’s still a lot more to be done.
