Rangers have officially confirmed the signing of Borna Barisic, for a fee believed to be around £2 million. The defender, who makes the move over from Osijek, recently faced Steven Gerrard’s side in a Europa League qualifier – and actually scored against them. Gerrard clearly saw something in the Croatian international, who will now be heading to Ibrox ahead of what is sure to be an intense season for the club.
The 25-year-old was selected for Croatia’s preliminary squad for the World Cup this year but didn’t make the final 23-man cut. His move signals a big moment for Rangers, in that they’re clearly able to lure young and talented players to the club after years of being viewed in a negative light.
One of the primary focuses this season will be attempting to wrestle control of the Scottish Premier League back from Celtic, and Barisic could wind up being a big part of that.
