GLASGOW (AFP) – Scottish champions Rangers signed Slovakia winger Vladimir Weiss on a season-long loan from Manchester City on Thursday.
Weiss had also been linked with Rangers’ Glasgow rivals Celtic, as well as Stuttgart and Sampdoria, but he opted to joined Walter Smith’s team after travelling to Ibrox for talks.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton and has again been forced to leave in search of regular action as a result of City’s heavy spending in the transfer market.
He is expected to go straight into the Rangers’ squad for Sunday’s Scottish Premier League match at Hibernian.
“Exciting Slovakian winger Vladimir Weiss has joined Rangers on a one-year loan from Premiership big spenders Manchester City,” a statement on the Scottish club’s website announced.
