Claudio Ranieri said inter have set their sights on qualifying for Champions League football rather than winning the Serie A title.
The 2010 Champions League winners are fifth in the league table, trailing table toppers Juventus by nine points, and Ranieri feels that Inter only have a shot at the title if all their rivals slip up.
“It’s not that I file our title ambitions away, then pull it out again, then file it away again,” Ranieri was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
“We’re going step by step, because the teams at the top are really flying.”
“So if they don’t slow down then we won’t make it. We’re hunting for a Champions League spot.”
Inter play Palermo at home on Wednesday, but they will be without Thiago Motta.
The midfielder has been sold to Ligue 1 side PSG and will be presented at the Parc de Princes on Wednesday.
“This presentation will be attended by PSG sporting director Leonardo,” a statement read on the French club’s website.
