Ranieri keen on Cole reunion

The Mirror understands that new Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is keen on making Carlton Cole his first signing since taking over at the King Power Stadium.

The former England international is a free agent after being released by West Ham United at the end of last season.

He has spent the last nine seasons at the Boleyn Ground, racking up almost three hundred appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring sixty-eight goals.

The thirty-one year old began his career with Chelsea – playing under Ranieri for three seasons – and at the time the Italian labelled him the best young player he had ever worked with.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Cole enjoyed loan spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa.

He has seven caps for his country, but has not featured for them since coming off the bench in a 3-1 friendly victory over Egypt in March 2010.
