Ranieri pleased with Roma turnaround

Roma manager Claudio Ranieri was happy his side overcame a lacklustre start to record a 4-2 win at Catania on Thursday.

Ranieri saw his side take an early lead through Marco Borriello before they were surprised as the hosts scored twice in nine minutes to go to the break in front.

But a contentious goal early in the second half got Roma going, as they romped home to an impressive win that sees them sit fourth on the Serie A table.

“We started well, but inexplicably fell apart after Marco Borriello’s goal,” Ranieri said.

“Catania are a good side with a smart tactician and they punished us, while we left a lot to be desired. In the second half I saw the Roma I know and we’d always like to see.”

Two of the three second-half goals Roma scored infuriated the hosts, who believed that the ball went out before John Arne Riise’s cross found Borriello to equalise just after half-time.

Catania also argued that one of Mirko Vucinic’s two second-half strikes should have been ruled out for offside and Ranieri admitted both goals had caused some doubt.

“There are a few doubts as to whether the ball went over the line, but I will admit Vucinic was offside,” he said.
