Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has handed in his resignation to Serie A club following a calamitous 4-3 loss at Genoa on Sunday.
Ranieri’s side led 3-0 after 51 minutes at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, but a stunning fightback saw Rodrigo Palacio and Alberto Paloschi score braces to secure victory for the hosts.
The loss was the last straw for the 59-year-old after a poor run of results has seen Roma slide to eighth in the Serie A, and he informed his players of his decision to quit following the match.
“I’ve always thought about the good of Roma and after a game such as today’s I believe it’s right to give a signal,” Ranieri said.
“After the final whistle I went into the changing rooms to thank the team and I decided to hand in my resignation.”
