Talking to ESPN, Ilkay Gundogan has revealed he could ‘imagine’ teaming up with Raul Jimenez at Manchester City.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward has been heavily linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, but it seems the City midfielder believes it there could be other options for the Mexico international. Jimenez has certainly been on terrific form this season and played a huge part in his team’s bid to secure European football for the second year in a row.
City may need a new striker this summer. Sergio Aguero, the club’s main man upfront for a long time now, is 31 and will enter the final year of his contract in a few months. He has already been linked with departure from the Eithad, and judging by Gundogan’s words, the Premier League champions could well be contemplating Jimenez as a suitable replacement.
Gundogan compared the Wolves man with Robert Lewandowski, with whom he used to play at Borussia Dortmund. He admitted that Jimenez isn’t quite there yet, but he believes the 28-year-old possesses everything it takes to make a world-class striker.
