Spanish striker Raul Gonzalez Blanco is set to leave Schalke when his contract expires at the end of the season, Bild reports.
The 35-year-old has proved to be a great signing for the Miners after he arrived on a free transfer from Real Madrid in the summer of 2010, but it looks as though his career at Veltins Arena has come to an end.
Due to the difficult financial situation, Schalke are cannot offer the player a contract he deserves and they are, therefore, prepared to let him go.
The Miners have been paying the Spaniard €5 million per season, with Real Madrid contributing another €2 million, but that arrangement expires at the end of the season.
Seeing that Klaas Jan Huntelaar, the number one player on the team sheet, is set to be offered a new bumper deal, the Bundesliga outfit can only offer Raul €3 million per campaign, which is clearly not going to be enough.
Schalke chiefs are looking to reduce the hefty wage bill that currently stands at €94.6 million per season and the Spaniard is likely to be a victim of club’s new policy.
