Schalke forward Raul Gonzalez Blanco has yet to reach a decision regarding his future, club sporting director Horst Heldt explains.
The veteran striker has just a couple of months left on his deal at Veltins Arena and he is widely tipped to leave the club at the end of the season.
The Spaniard has been offered a one-year extension by Schalke officials, but Raul is not yet ready to commit his future to the Miners.
“There is still no trend, there is still no decision,” Horst Heldt was quoted as saying in Kicker.
“For Raul it is a landmark decision. He has to talk with his family about whether is makes sense or not.”
The former Real Madrid captain initially requested a new two-year contract, but it appears that he is now ready to consider signing on for one more season.
Everybody at the club is desperate to keep hold of their star player, but club chiefs are looking to trim down the hefty wage bill and are not prepared to overpay the Spaniard.
Schalke officials are also preparing a new contract offer for Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who is seen as the number one player on the team sheet.
