Spanish striker Raul will have to take a pay cut if he wants to stay at Schalke for another year, Bild reveals.
The veteran forward has developed into a key player for the Miners soon after arriving from Real Madrid and he is reportedly very happy at Gelsenkirchen.
His current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, with negotiations likely to start in January.
The club chiefs want Raul to stay on for another year, but his €7 million yearly wage is proving to be a big problem.
Schalke currently pays the Spaniard around €5 million per season, with the remainder of his wage paid by Real Madrid.
However, with that kind of agreement only valid until the end of the season, Raul will have to agree to a big pay cut in order to sign a new deal, as Schalke cannot afford to pay him more than €5 million per campaign.
