(GSM) – Fulham have appointed Ray Lewington as caretaker of the team after Roy Hodgson left the club to become the new Liverpool manager. 62-year-old Hodgson, who guided Fulham to the Europa League final in what was a shocking season, has joined the Anfield club on a three-year contract on Thursday.
Now the Cottagers have turned to Lewington on a short-term basis after Hodgson left his post following a highly-successful two-and-a-half year reign.
A club statement read: “Fulham confirm that at 9.20am this morning, Roy Hodgson resigned from his position of first-team manager, effective immediately.
“The club would like to wish Roy the very best for the future and thanks him for all that was achieved during his tenure.
“Ray Lewington will take temporary charge of team matters until a successor is announced in due course.”
Lewington was a Fulham player between 1986 and 1990 and made over 270 appearances for the club’s first-team.
