Hoping to finish off the job on Wednesday night, a struggling Liverpool will face off against RB Leipzig at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
Starting with a Liverpool side in the midst of a real crisis, few across Europe would have expected such a shocking collapse by the defending Premier League champions. Still dealing with a host of injury issues and breaking a string of unwanted records in what has been a horror campaign at Anfield, it appears the pressure is really mounting on Jurgen Klopp’s shoulders. While The Reds might have picked up a Champions League advantage against Leipzig last month, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has seen his side freefall their way down to eighth in the Premier League table. Now seen as a shock outsider to secure themselves another top-four finish, Liverpool were hit with a stunning 1-0 defeat at home against relegation scrappers Fulham over the weekend. Losing three of their last four matchups across all formats, Klopp’s side find themselves at a real low.
As for RB Leipzig, although they might know that they need a real turnaround after their 2-0 defeat against Liverpool last month, the German outfit have picked up some recent momentum. Smelling a chance to cause an upset and cash in on Klopp’s strugglers, the Whites were last seen over the weekend picking up a 3-0 romp against Freiburg and the mood in their camp should be at a high. Really bouncing back from that first-leg defeat, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have won each of their last four matchups on the bounce and have really picked up some eye-catching scalps. Including a 2-0 win against Wolfsburg while on DFP Pokal duties earlier in the month, Leipzig also grabbed a 3-2 win against fellow Champions League outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach a fortnight ago.
