`Reaching the Champions League final is our main goal`

Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy hopes to return to the pitch very soon. The Dutchman picked up a thigh injury during the match against Xerez (5-0 win), one month ago. Van Gol won`t be able to play for his club in the Champions League match against Milan, on Wednesday.

`I feel fine now,` Van Nistelrooy explains on the club`s official website. `Three weeks have gone by since I was injured and I’ve started to jog again.

`I will train with the rest of the team this week and I will be available whenever the coach needs me. We’ll see when my time comes.`

Van Nistelrooy had an eight months spell at the sidelines due to a knee injury, he suffered against Juventus in November 2008.

Last month, the 33-year-old made his comeback against Xerez. He managed to score a goal but also picked up another injury.

`I felt bad for two or three days. I was very disappointed, but I soon recovered and got strength to start all over again.

`I have a positive mentality. I stopped playing in November last year and this season I will start playing again in November.

`I don’t want to work with doctors any more; I’ve seen hem enough these past few months! I hope I don’t see them again in a very long time,` said Van Nistelrooy.

The former Manchester United star thinks he can reach his top level again, when he returns to the squad.

`Before I was injured again (Manuel) Pellegrini (Real Madrid manager) told me to train hard and to adapt to the rest of the team. My goal is to play.

`The coach needs me to be in optimum form and I will be. Once I get there he’ll know he’ll have an extra striker.`

Van Nistelrooy doesn`t like to talk about the Champions League final, which will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu.
` Everyone knows that’s our main goal this season. We shouldn’t talk too much about it.

`We have to play many games before the time comes and I hope we reach the final,` concluded Van Nistelrooy.
