The London Evening standard suggests that former Tottenham Hotspur forward Roman Pavlyuchenko could be on his way back to the English Premier League to join Reading in the January transfer window.
He is currently plying his trade with Russian top flight side Lokomotiv Moscow, but it is thought that the Royals want some more fire-power going forward.
Reading have a Russian owner at the moment as well, Anton Zingarevich, and he could be the key man in making this deal happen.
Also, Pavel Pogrebnyak is playing for Brian McDermott’s team is likely to persuade Pavlyuchenko to come and join him at the Madjeski Stadium.
Reading look like being in a real relegation battle this campaign and it is their inability to defend that is costing them at the minute. Many thought that McDermott would be looking for a defender in the New Year, but he could splash the cash on a goal-scorer.
He scored 21 goals in 78 appearances for Spurs, which is not the best record but he is sure to get more first-team opportunities with the Berkshire club, so might be a bit more prolific.
It is certainly a story to keep an eye on as the January window draws closer.
