Real and City battle for Benat

Real Madrid and Manchester City are both keeping close tabs on Real Betis midfielder Benat Etxebarria, L’Equipe has revealed.

The 25-year-old has earned quite a reputation with his impressive showings in La Liga, leading to top European clubs expressing interest in his signature.

While Wolfsburg and Athletic Bilbao already made attempts to sign the Spain International, Real Madrid and Manchester City have also joined the race.

Los Blancos will have a chance to witness the player’s qualities at first hand when they face Real Betis on Saturday evening, with a view of making an official bid in the January transfer window.

New Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain is a big fan of the talented midfielder, with his €20 million release clause unlikely to be a problem for the Etihad outfit.

Benat, arguably one of the most talented central midfielders in La Liga, has scored 2 goals and produced 4 assists in 10 league games this season.
