Real and City locked in the battle for Benfica defender, Marcos Senna welcomes Barca interest

Real Madrid and Manchester City to battle it out for David Luiz

Benfica’s David Luiz is one of the most sought-after players in Europe and he is the subject of a true bidding war between Real Madrid and Manchester City.

The Eagles initially requested 32 million euros for the Brazilian centre-back but Real were only willing to pay 28 and the negotiations broke off.

It was then City’s turn to test Benfica’s resolve with the bid of 33 million euros, but knowing that Real could still return into the race, president Luis Felipe Vieira rejected the offer and he now wants no less than 40 million for David Luiz.

Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to be blackmailed but with the player expressing his interest to join Real, the Portuguese could explore other options.

It seems that Benfica are prepared to cut down the asking price for David Luiz should one or two Real players arrive to La Luz and that is what’s keeping this deal alive.

Young striker Rodrigo, who is now playing for Spain Under-19 team at the European Championship, could be used as a makeweight for the deal, while the Eagles are also interested in Royston Drenthe and Ezequiel Garay.

Signing David Luiz could prove to be quite a coup for Real Madrid as they would get one of the biggest prospects in Europe, while getting rid of several fringe players at the same time.

Marcos Senna welcomes Barcelona interest

The recent reports suggest that Barcelona will try and sign Marcos Senna if they fail to bring Cesc Fabregas to Camp Nou and the Villarreal midfielder admitted he would have nothing against such a move.

The Brazilian-born Marcos Senna is nearing the closing stages of his career but his performances for the El Madrigal outfit have not gone unnoticed and he is still attracting interest from big European clubs such as Barcelona.

“It is an honor and a dream that Barca think of me,” stated Senna while admitting there have been no official offers so far: “For now, there is nothing.”

After eight very successful seasons in Villarreal, Senna’s agent, Eli Coimbra doesn’t think the club will stand in his way should he opt for a new challenge.

“I am sure that if Barca talk with Villarreal, the club officials will not obstruct the exit. During these eight years, Senna never had any problems at the club, in contrast, he has always been very professional and going to Barca would be a unique opportunity for him.”

Mainz set to move for Dominic Adiyiah

According to the latest reports from Germany, Bundesliga side Mainz are exploring the option of signing Dominic Adiyiah from Milan.

The enthusiastic striker has seen little playing time at San Siro after arriving to the club from Frederikstad in January and Milan are prepared to send him on a one-year loan in order to gain some experience.

The Bundesliga outfit will try to add some more quality to their front line and they see the young Ghanaian as a perfect short-term solution.

“Adiyiah is definitely a candidate to strengthen our front line this summer. However, he’s not the only candidate to join us,” said Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel.

The player who shined at U-20 World Cup in Ghana less than a year ago would probably command a starting place at Mainz and a season of regular Bundesliga football could be just what he needs to kick-start his career, since there is no chance his status would change if he stays in Milan.
