Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola on Monday dismissed suggestions by Real Madrid's Bernd Schuster that the Spanish champions have no chance against their arch-rivals at this weekend's 'El Clasico'.
“It's not possible to win at the Nou Camp. Barca crushes everyone, it's their year,” Schuster said late Sunday after his club's 4-3 defeat to Sevilla in the Spanish capital.
“We just have to think about making a game of it,” he said.
“Do you believe what Schuster said? If you don't believe it, I don't either,” Guardiola told a reporter who asked him about the comments by the Real coach, which made headlines in Spanish sports newspapers Monday.
Guardiola added that he is “totally convinced” that Real can win at the Nou Camp, and “if we aren't good on Saturday, they can beat us.”
The Real v Barcelona fixture is one of the highlights of the league season in Spain and is usually preceded by a phoney war, with either side trying to heap pressure on the other.
This season Barcelona are in sparkling form and hold a nine-point lead over Real, who sit in fifth place.
But despite injuries to key players Schuster's side will be considered a force to be reckoned with. In the corresponding fixture last season Real beat Barcelona 1-0 at the Nou Camp.
