(GSM) – Real Madrid went back to the top of La Liga with a 3-0 win over Espanyol on Tuesday night.
Real started well and dominated the first half of the match. After half an hour they were awared a penalty after Luis García handled the ball in the area. Cristiano Ronaldo converted the spot-kick to send his side up front: 1-0.
Los Blancos were reduced to ten man after an hour of play when Pepé was rewarded his second yellow card for a foul on José Callejón. The sides were in balance again not long after that incident when Enrique Galán saw red for his two-legged challenge on Ronaldo.
It took Real until ten minutes before the final whistle to decide the match when Gonzalo Higuaín converted a beautiful pass from Ronaldo: 2-0.
Lassana Diarra set up Karim Benzema to make it 3-0 just before the end of the game. Espanyol’s Juan Forlín couldn’t hide his anger and got his second yellow card for repeatedly criticising the referee.
Real now have ten points after four matches. Valencia can reclaim the top spot on Wednesday when they face Atlético Madrid.
