Real Madrid are considering the possibility of ramping up their long-standing interest in Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe this summer, according to The Telegraph.
The France international was Real’s reported No. 1 target a year ago and they pushed hard to convince him to swap the French capital for the Spanish one, but at the time, he chose not to make the move and signed a new three-year deal instead. Spanish media sought to explain his decision by claiming he was offered to have a word in every major decision the club makes along with an insane amount of money, but Mbappe himself has firmly denied such notions as untrue.
However, things have changed at the Parc des Princes recently. Neymar has been in the shadow of Mbappe and Lionel Messi for a while, and now Messi himself has raised the anger of the club and their supporters by not reporting for training following the 1-3 home defeat to Lorient on the last day of April, and making an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia instead. Further more, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has reportedly decided to leave Paris as a free agent at the end of the season.
At Real, they believe the crisis that appears to have hit PSG after yet another Champions League failure may prove enough to help them prize Mbappe away. They’re already close to completing a big-money move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, after Liverpool decided to pull out of the race, and Mbappe would represent another immense addition to their ranks as they seek to regain the La Liga crown next season.
