Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, and the talks about a new one haven’t gone well so far. The experienced defender is currently out of action as he recovers from surgery on a torn meniscus and isn’t expected back before April, which puts the contract talks even further back on his list of priorities right now. Even though this situation is far from new when it comes to Ramos, it seems that this time his time at the Santiago Bernabeu may truly be coming to an end.
Real are preparing for such a contingency. They’ve been linked strongly with David Alaba, who has openly declared he will be leaving Bayern Munich this summer, and now AS report that they’re watching David Carmo of Sporting Braga closely as well.
The 21-year-old centre-back was a subject of an €18 million offer from AS Roma last summer which was rejected. Liverpool reportedly wanted him on an initial loan in January with an option to buy for €20m this summer, but Braga wanted it to be an obligation to buy and to stand at €25m and the deal fell through as the Premier League champions went for Ozan Kabak instead. This development left a number of possibilities open and Real believe they would be at the front of the queue if they decide to make a move.
