Catalan daily newspaper Sport has revealed that Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.
The 27-year-old has developed into one of La Liga’s top shot-stoppers over the last year or so, with los Periquitos desperate to tie him down to a new long-term contract.
However, while the player is perfectly happy to remain at Cornella El Prat, the reported interest from Real Madrid could prove to be a deal-breaker.
Los Blancos continue to monitor Kiko Casilla and they could make a move if Iker Casillas decides to bale out of Santiago Bernabeu.
Espanyol chiefs have referred all interested clubs to the goalkeeper’s €20 million release clause, but in case they decide to cash in on their prized asset, Real Madrid will have the upper hand as they are prepared to relinquish the money still owed to them by their La Liga rivals.
With los Blancos sitting no less than six points adrift of league leaders Barcelona, it is hardly surprising they are 4/1 to win the La Liga trophy.
