Hoping to move one step closer to lifting the La Liga title, a high-flying Real Madrid will host a struggling Alaves in the capital on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, picking up what was an impressive 1-0 win away at European chasers Athletic Bilbao last weekend, the mood in Real Madrid’s camp couldn’t be any higher. With Barca so publically slipping up since returning from the enforced break, Los Blancos know that victory on Friday will see them extend their buffer at the top of the table to four points. In the midst of a glittering seven-match winning run, there is no doubt that Head Coach Zinedine Zidane will be most impressed by his side’s recent displays at the back. Conceding just 21 La Liga strikes so far this season and holding the best-defensive record in Spain’s top-flight, the Whites have landed four clean sheets on the bounce and will be looking to make another statement on Friday night.

As for the visitors, while the mood in Madrid’s camp might remain at a season-high, the same cannot be said for a struggling Alaves. Putting in what was another worrying display last weekend and hit with a 1-0 defeat against Real Valladolid, Juan Muñiz’s men find themselves in the midst of a dreadful six-match losing run and some still looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Drawing another blank on the road last week, there is no doubt that Muñiz will have a growing headache over his side’s glaring issues in front of goal. Including a 6-0 hammering away at Celta Vigo last month, Alaves have remarkably failed to bag a single strike from open play in any of their last six defeats. Hit with a 3-0 drumming the last time they faced off against Los Blancos in the capital, we’re backing a similar outcome on Friday.
