Leonardo Campana, who plays as a forward in Ecuador’s Barcelona S.C. in Guayaquil, gained a lot of attention when he scored six goals in nine games in this year’s South American Under-20 Championship, helping Ecuador finish third in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Campana joined Barcelona S.C. this past April and is already through to be one of the most promising young talents.
Talks of signing the young Ecuadorian international have reportedly been had with several Italian clubs including AC Milan and Juventus. AS have relayed reports that Napoli offered €5 million for the teenager, although this claim has not been confirmed. Raúl González Blanco, currently the head coach at Real Madrid Castilla, is also said to be keen on signing Campana, thus strengthening the forward options in his team.
It is not insignificant that the 19-year-old is a Spanish passport holder, meaning that signing him will not fill up one of the limited spots available for non-EU citizens. Even though he is expected to cost around four to five million, there is also a possibility of a loan with an option to buy.
