La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are said to have identified Ajax midfielder playmaker Frenkie de Jong as an ideal replacement for Croatia international Luka Modric.

The experienced midfield maestro was heavily linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu this summer. It appears that Modric’s time at Santiago Bernabeu is coming to its inevitable end and Los Blancos want to make sure to obtain a proper replacement for one of their most influential players.

The 21-year-old De Jong has been highlighted as a perfect long-term solution and reports coming from Spanish media are claiming that Real Madrid hierarchy would be willing to fork out as much as €80 million to acquire De Jong’s services.

Frenkie de Jong has long been linked with a move to Barcelona but it appears Real Madrid are keen to challenge their archrivals for the signature of one of Europe’s highest rating youngsters.
