According to El Desmarque (as relayed by AS), Real Madrid are interested in signing Unai Simon from Athletic Bilbao.
Los Blancos signed Thibaut Courtois last year from Chelsea to provide competition for Keylor Navas, and at the end of last season, Navas went to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving the path clear for the Belgian to fully establish himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper. However, Courtois has come under heavy scrutiny this season, and it appears that Real are already looking for a potential long-term replacement.
The 22-year-old Simon is a product of Athletic Bilbao’s Academy. He has also gone through all the age groups of the Spanish national team. He has been on excellent form this season, conceding only four times in eight La Liga matches while keeping four clean sheets, and such an output has obviously attracted the interest of the arguably biggest club in the world. But it remains to be seen if he would replace Courtois straight away, even if he does arrive to the Santiago Bernabeu in the near future.
