La Liga giants and reigning Champions League title holders Real Madrid are said to have joined the race to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Europe under Mauricio Pochettino but his immediate future came under scrutiny after he was left out of his team’s Champions League clash at Juventus.
Tottenham are said to be unwilling to break the bank to keep their star defender whose contract with Spurs runs out in 2019 and rumours have already started about his move to Manchester United.
However, the latest reports claim that Real Madrid are also pondering a summer swoop for the 28-year-old according to Daily Mirror.
Despite having a one-year extension option in his deal with Tottenham, Alderweireld is under a £25 million release clause which would be highly affordable to the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.
