Real Madrid have been on the lookout for potential candidates who could fill the boots of the 34-year-old Luka Modric in the long term for some time now. The Croatia captain has had a massive input in Real’s last four Champions League triumphs, and proving that the Spanish giants knew what they were doing when they signed him from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. However, given his age and the fact that Real are facing a significant team reconstruction, they obviously need a player who can step in and act as the main creative force on the pitch.
They’ve long been linked with Paul Pogba of Manchester United, Christian Eriksen of Spurs and Donny van de Beek of Ajax, but now AS report that Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz has climbed to the top of their wish list. The 23-year-old has impressed for his club both domestically and in Europe, and apart from Real, he has been linked with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in recent months.
