Recent reports have suggested Real Madrid might look to sign Virgil van Dijk when his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season. But according to Marca, Los Blancos have no interest in going for the Netherlands captain, as they firmly believe he will sign a new contract with the Premier League leaders.
Van Dijk himself has confirmed not long ago that he is in talks with Liverpool over a new deal, and he was reportedly presented with an official initial offer which he refused. However, Liverpool are expected to improve on that, and with Van Dijk keen to continue wearing the captain’s armband at Anfield, an agreement will likely be reached at some point between now and next summer.
Real, meanwhile, are struggling with injuries in their back line and they will surely enter the market to strengthen it, whether in January or in the summer, it remains to be seen. They may be resigned to turning away from Van Dijk, but they reportedly hold strong interest in Liverpool’s vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is also running down the final season in his contract.
