According to Radio Marca (via Sky Sports), Real Madrid have chosen Xabi Alonso as the man they want as their next head coach, as the departure of Carlo Ancelotti draws nearer every day.
Ancelotti has agreed to take over the job with the national team of Brazil after this season, which obviously means his second spell in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout will come to a close.
Meanwhile, Alonso was previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur, prior to the appointment of Ange Postecoglou by the North London club. At that time, however, he categorically stated he was committed to Bayer Leverkusen and happy at his job in Germany, where he’s under contract until the summer of 2026. At the moment, his team are second in the Bundesliga table, behind defending champions Bayern Munich only on goal-difference.
Alonso spent five years at Real Madrid as a player, with 236 games in the famous white shirt, winning one La Liga title, two Copa del Rey trophies, one Spanish Super Cup, one Champions League trophy, and one UEFA Super Cup. He also worked as a youth coach at the club for a year.
