Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Antonio Rudiger over his move on a free transfer from Chelsea this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 29-year-old defender is about to run out of contract with Chelsea, and though he was open to an extension, the situation surrounding the club’s ownership status makes that impossible for the time being. And it seems Rudiger has decided he cannot wait any longer for the matter to get resolved. Manager Thomas Tuchel has already confirmed the players decision to leave.
Real Madrid are believed to have been in contact with the representatives of the Germany international since December, looking to add high-quality competition for Eder Militao and David Alaba to their ranks. Rudiger has been playing at a very high level since Tuchel took charge at Chelsea in January last year, playing a vital role in their successful quest for the Champions League trophy last season.
Signing such a player on a free transfer is certainly a shrewd move, and Real reportedly had to beat off competition from the likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich to acquire his services.
