Real Madrid are stepping up their interest in Villarreal midfielder Borja Valero, El Mundo Deportivo reports.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Jose Mourinho’s stay at Santiago Bernabeu, Florentino Perez is already looking for reinforcements for the new season.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid officials are very interested in Villarreal midfielder Borja Valero, the player who left Madrid in 2007 after 13 years at Santiago Bernabeu.
The 27-year-old is eager to leave Villarreal after the El Madrigal outfit suffered a major downtrend in fortunes this season, and he could accept an offer to return to los Blancos.
Valero was on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid in January, but the transfer eventually fell through.
Real Madrid chiefs believe Valero would be a perfect midfield partner for Xabi Alonso and have already contacted the player’s representatives.
The midfielder has a contract until June 2015 at El Madrigal and a buyout clause of €40 million, but he should be available for much less.
