Last month Luis Figo’s former agent revealed how Real Madrid managed to sign the Portuguese winger from Barcelona in a hugely controversial move. Apparently, the agent signed a pre-contract with the Madrid club which stated that the player would have to compensate them with €30 million should he break his end of the deal.
Now News of the World reports that Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent has signed a similar kind of deal and now Real Madrid want the player to pay up after he decided that he will remain at the club for at least one more season. According to the report, Ronaldo would have to pay £17 million for breaking the pre-contract.
Real Madrid, however are willing to compromise and would not press for the compensation as long as Ronaldo promises to join them next season, this also as reported by News of the World.
This bit of news is sure to infuriate Sir Alex Ferguson. The Manchester United gaffer was reported saying that he hopes Ronaldo would stay at Manchester United beyond the expiration of his current deal in 2012. Now, Ferguson will have to prepare for next summer when it seems he will have to fend off interest from Real Madrid once again.
