Real Madrid have confirmed the acquisition of Tafekusa Kubo as their fifth signing of the summer.
Los Blancos aren’t wasting any time when it comes to the long-announced rebuild of their team in this transfer window. Having significantly boosted their first team with the purchases of centre-back Eder Militao from Porto (€46m), striker Luka Jović from Eintracht Frankfurt (21, €60m), winger Eden Hazard from Chelsea (28, reportedly over €160m with add-ons), and fullback Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyon (24, €52m), they’ve now brought in a player for the future in the form of the 18-year-old Kubo, who arrives from Japanese First Division side FC Tokyo.
The youngster, playing mostly as an attacking midfielder with notable dribbling skills and vision of the game, has chosen Real over their fierce rivals Barcelona, where he spent four years as an academy project, as well as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Kubo made 16 appearances in all competitions for his now former club this year, scoring four goals in the process, and he has already made his international debut with Japan, only a few days ago. He will start with Real’s Castilla team.
