Spanish media outlet Marca is reporting that Real Madrid are readying summer bid for Atletico Madrid stopper Jose Maria Gimenez.
Los Blancos plan to further rejuvenate their back line in the summer and they have made the Uruguayan defender their top target.
Head coach Zinedine Zidane believes Gimenez has the potential to succeed Sergio Ramos in the heart of defence and he has instructed the club chiefs to make their move.
According to Marca, Real Madrid are prepared to match a €60 million release clause in the player’s contract, which is expected to cause further friction between the two rival clubs.
Jose Maria Gimenez, 23, has shown a great deal of potential playing for Atletico Madrid and Uruguay, but hasn’t quite managed to nail down a regular starting berth under Diego Simeone.
