Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Rayan Cherki of Olympique Lyon, according to various reports both in Spain and France.
The 16-year-old attacking midfielder recently became Lyon’s youngest goalscorer in history as he netted in their 0-7 triumph away to Bourg-en-Bresse in the Coupe de France on January 4th, and he added a brace to his maiden goal in the next round of the competition against Nantes, two weeks later. He is expected by many to become the next big thing to come out of Lyon’s academy, following in the footsteps of Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, Corentin Tolisso and Samuel Umtiti, and his talent has ignited the interest of a number of top clubs around Europe.
But it appears Zidane has been watching Cherki closely for a while now. On the other hand, Lyon are reportedly doing whatever they can to keep him away from the clutches of bigger clubs, and lately they’ve been trying to get him to sign a new contract with improved terms, but at the moment the player is keeping his options open. The Ligue 1 side are in no hurry though, as his current deal doesn’t expire before the summer of 2022.
