Real must keep pace: Mourinho

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said it is vital that his side keep winning and stay in touch with La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Real host an out of sorts Sevillla side on Sunday, with the visitors having lost their last four league matches to sit eight points outside the Champions League spots.

But Mourinho said it would be dangerous to underestimate Gregorio Manzano’s side.

“They are a team hurt by bad results, and a hurt team always has something to give,” Mourinho said.

“They have injuries too, so nobody can complain about an advantage. We have injuries and suspensions, which are even worse.”

“But you can’t complain. We have to try to get the points and end 2010 in a good position.”

Real welcomed midfielder Kaka back to full training for the first time since August on Friday.

The midfielder has been out for four months following knee surgery.

He’s not expected to return to action until the new year.

But Sergio Ramos could play on Sunday after missing the last two league matches.

The match against Sevilla is the final fixture for Real before the winter break, and Mourinho said it was vital they kept Barcelona’s lead to two points.

“At the moment we are second, two points behind. It’s a good position. Not the one that we want, but it is a good position,” Mourinho said.

“What we want is an open championship and two points difference is what we have to keep. We have to play this match… to win and to keep this distance.”
