Real Madrid have expressed an interest in signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, according to Sky in Germany.
The striker, capable of playing anywhere across the front three, was linked with Real a while back, but also with the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Liverpool. But it appears that the Spanish giants have now taken the next step in actually informing Leipzig of their interest in the 23-year-old.
Werner’s numbers this season have been remarkable indeed. He has had 33 goal involvements – 22 goals, 10 assists – in 25 games in all competitions for the team topping the Bundesliga table at the moment. He signed a new contract in August last year, but there appears to be a release clause in there, the value of which is being reported differently by different sources. Sky claim it’s set at just €30 million, but in order for it to be triggered certain add-ons must be included in any potential deal, taking the actual price of the transfer to double that. Meanwhile, The Athletic say it’s fixed at €50 million.
Apart from Real, the Germany international is reportedly a priority target for Chelsea.
