Real Madrid have taken the opportunity presented by this year’s Copa America to take a closer look at Miguel Almiron of Newcastle United, according to AS.
The attacking midfielder only joined the Magpies last year for €24 million from MLS side Atlanta United, breaking the club’s transfer record in the process. However, his future is believed to have been tied up with that of manager Rafa Benitez, and Newcastle have already confirmed that the former Valencia, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Napoli boss will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Therefore, the departure of Benitez could open the door for Almiron to walk out as well.
As for Real, they need to move James Rodriguez on before they act on the matter, and though the Colombian is reportedly very close to a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli, nothing is likely to happen before Copa America ends.
